Dutch Pepper Liquorice โ Sweet Black Liquorice with Black Pepper
Large chewy black liquorice rectangles of sweet liquorice with a very mild hint of salmiak salt (Ammonium Chloride) and a hit of black pepper that provides a unique flavour and a warming aftertaste.
These generous rectangles offer something genuinely different โ the deep sweetness of traditional Dutch liquorice combined with the distinctive warmth of black pepper. The salmiak is subtle, just enough to add that characteristic Dutch touch, while the pepper creates a memorable warming sensation that builds as you chew.
These Dutch Pepper Liquorice slabs have caused quite a stir in the house since we got them. Why don’t you find out what all the fuss was about?
MEENK โ Over a Century of Dutch Liquorice Tradition
Named after Dr J.B. Meenk, who created medicinal recipes under the MEENK brand from 1900, this liquorice carries real heritage. Around 1920, the factory expanded into confectionery manufacturing. During World War II, a shortage of chemical ingredients led to a pivotal decision โ they switched to exclusively natural, plant-based ingredients. This became the foundation of the MEENK liquorice we enjoy today.
All MEENK liquorice is manufactured in the historic Dutch town of Winschoten using the finest plant-based ingredients and traditional techniques refined over generations.

I would not buy these again. I disliked the texture, which I didn’t think was chewy, just soft. I didn’t get any of the great-sounding flavours.
